One of the most significant advantages we offer at Alber Dental Studio is our CEREC CAD/CAM technology, which allows us to fabricate custom dental crowns right here in our Boulder office. Traditional crown procedures require two visits, a temporary crown, and a waiting period while a restoration is manufactured off-site. With CEREC, that process is condensed into one efficient visit.
How Does the CEREC Process Work?
During your appointment, we take highly accurate digital impressions of your tooth — no uncomfortable putty required. Those impressions are then fed into our CEREC milling unit, which carves your permanent crown from a solid block of high-quality ceramic. The result is a durable, natural-looking restoration placed the same day. This same-day approach is especially appreciated by busy Boulder professionals and anyone who prefers fewer office visits without sacrificing the quality of their dental care.
How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?
With proper care, dental crowns can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years or longer. Longevity depends largely on the materials used, how well the crown fits, and how consistently the patient maintains their general dentistry routine at home and in the dental chair.
Caring for a dental crown is straightforward and follows the same principles as caring for natural teeth. A few habits worth remembering include:
- Brushing twice daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush
- Flossing carefully around the crown, paying attention to where it meets the gumline
- Avoiding chewing hard foods, ice, or non-food items that could crack the crown
- Wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth during sleep
Routine checkups allow us to monitor the crown’s fit and integrity over time, catching any concerns early before they become larger problems.
