Dental care delivery has changed dramatically over the past two decades. Digital X-rays reduce radiation. Chairside milling machines produce permanent crowns in a single visit. Advanced imaging reveals structures invisible to traditional X-rays. For Boulder residents who value their time and want the best outcomes possible, understanding the technology available at your dental practice is worth knowing before your next appointment.

At Alber Dental Studio, we have invested in advanced dental technology to ensure every patient receives accurate diagnoses, efficient treatment, and comfortable care. Our team, led by Dr. Marc Alber and Dr. Lauren Llorente, brings decades of combined experience to a practice that prioritizes same-day care and precision at every step. As part of our commitment to general dentistry in Boulder, we continually refine our tools and techniques so that you spend less time in the chair and more time enjoying your results.

CEREC Same-Day Crowns and Onlays

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is an in-office CAD/CAM milling system that designs and mills a permanent ceramic crown or onlay in a single visit. Dr. Alber is a mentor for Cerecdoctors.com and an educator at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry — one of a small number of dentists in the country trained at that level with this system. Most crowns and onlays are completed in under two hours with no temporaries and no second appointment.

The CEREC workflow begins with a digital scan of the prepared tooth. The software generates a precise 3D restoration design, which is then milled chairside from a solid ceramic block matched to your tooth’s shade. The result is a restoration fabricated with the same precision as a lab-made crown, delivered the same day. This approach supports everything from our restorative dentistry to cosmetic dental treatments in Boulder.

Patients who benefit from CEREC include those with a cracked, broken, or heavily decayed tooth needing a crown, an existing crown that has failed, a tooth that needs an onlay or inlay, and anyone who prefers to complete restorative work in a single appointment.

Technologies available at our Boulder practice:
CEREC 3D CAD/CAM — Same-day crowns and onlays, no temporaries
iTero Digital Scanner — Precise 3D impressions, no putty
Cone Beam CT (CBCT) Imaging — 3D jaw, nerve, and bone mapping
Digital X-Rays — Lower radiation, instant high-resolution images
Intraoral Cameras — Real-time visuals so you see exactly what we see
Nitrous Oxide and Oral Conscious Sedation — Comfort options for anxious patients
Your Care Team

Dr. Marc Alber, DDS & Dr. Lauren Llorente, DDS

Dr. Alber has used CEREC technology for over two decades and holds a rare mentorship role with Cerecdoctors.com, teaching other dentists to use the system at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry. His depth of experience with digital restorations means the design and mill process is refined to a level that produces consistently precise, natural-looking results. Dr. Llorente complements this with strong diagnostic skills and a patient-centered approach — she is fluent in Spanish and works closely with Dr. Alber on complex treatment planning.

As a 100% fee-for-service practice, every treatment recommendation is based entirely on your clinical needs. We offer 0% financing through CareCredit, Cherry, and Altheon, accept HSA and FSA, and offer an in-house membership plan for patients without insurance. Technology investments at Alber Dental Studio are driven by patient outcomes, not insurance reimbursement schedules.

What to Expect

How Our Technology Improves Your Visit

Every technology investment at Alber Dental Studio is chosen because it directly improves accuracy, reduces discomfort, or saves you time. The iTero replaces messy impression putty with a handheld digital wand. CEREC eliminates the second crown appointment. CBCT imaging removes the guesswork from implant planning. Digital X-rays cut radiation exposure compared to traditional film.

Dr. Alber will confirm veneers are the right fit during your consultation — and clearly explain any alternative if they’re not.

What to Expect

The Porcelain Veneer Process

1

iTero Digital Scan

We use the iTero to capture a precise 3D digital model of your mouth at the start of treatment planning. For restorations, Invisalign, and implant consultations, this scan replaces traditional impressions — no trays, no putty, and no gagging. The scan also lets us show you real-time images of your teeth so you can see exactly what we see. Our philosophy is that we will never recommend treatment unless we can show you a picture of what we want to do and explain exactly why.

2

CBCT and Digital Imaging

Cone beam CT (CBCT) produces a three-dimensional image of the teeth, jawbone, nerves, and surrounding structures in a single scan. This is a significant advancement over traditional two-dimensional X-rays, which can miss critical details when planning complex procedures like implant placement or evaluating impacted teeth. Our digital X-ray system also produces sharper images at a fraction of the radiation dose of traditional film, and images are available instantly on-screen during your appointment.

3

CEREC Mill and Final Restoration

After the tooth is prepared and scanned, the CEREC software generates a 3D restoration design that Dr. Alber reviews and adjusts before milling begins. The ceramic block is milled chairside in approximately 15 minutes, then placed, adjusted for bite, bonded, and polished — all in the same appointment. No temporary crown, no second injection, no return visit.

4

Bonding & Final Polish

Permanent veneers are placed, adjusted for fit and bite, bonded with light-cured adhesive, and polished for a seamless result.

Veneers vs. Composite Bonding

CEREC vs. Traditional Lab Crowns

Traditional lab crowns require two appointments spread over two to three weeks. At the first visit, the tooth is prepared and an impression is taken, and a temporary crown is placed while the permanent restoration is fabricated off-site. At the second visit, the temporary is removed and the permanent crown is cemented. CEREC consolidates both appointments into one. The tooth is prepared, scanned, designed, milled, and seated the same day. For patients who cannot take multiple days off or who find temporaries uncomfortable, CEREC is a significant practical advantage.

Porcelain Veneers Composite Bonding
Material Custom-fabricated porcelain — lab made Tooth-colored composite resin — chair-side applied
Longevity 10–20 years with proper care 5–10 years; may chip or stain sooner
Stain resistance Highly stain-resistant More susceptible to staining over time
Tooth reduction Minimal — thin enamel layer removed Often none — additive process
Best for Comprehensive smile transformations, permanent results Minor corrections, budget-conscious patients, younger patients

Caring for Your Veneers

Technology That Makes Visits More Comfortable

Advanced technology and patient comfort go hand in hand at Alber Dental Studio. Several of our tools are chosen specifically because they reduce discomfort, eliminate steps patients find unpleasant, or shorten time in the chair:

iTero replaces impression putty — no gagging, no messy trays

Porcelain is strong but not indestructible. Biting down on hard objects puts stress on the bond and can chip the veneer. Treat your veneers the same way you would treat natural teeth — avoid using them as tools.

CEREC eliminates the temporary crown and the second appointment entirely

Bruxism (teeth grinding) is one of the most common causes of early veneer failure. If you grind at night, Dr. Alber will recommend a custom night guard to protect your veneers and underlying teeth from damage.

Nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation are available for anxious patients

Veneers are maintained just like natural teeth — brush twice daily and floss regularly. Avoid highly abrasive toothpastes, which can scratch the porcelain surface over time. We recommend a non-abrasive, fluoride toothpaste for daily use.

Intraoral cameras let you see what we see — every diagnosis shown on-screen before treatment begins

Routine six-month exams and cleanings let Dr. Alber inspect your veneers for any early signs of wear, edge lifting, or gum changes. Catching small issues early is always easier — and less costly — than addressing them later.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CEREC and how does it work?
CEREC is a chairside CAD/CAM system that designs and mills a permanent ceramic crown or onlay in a single appointment. After the tooth is prepared, a digital scan is taken. The CEREC software generates a 3D restoration design that Dr. Alber reviews and adjusts before milling begins. The ceramic block is milled in the office in approximately 15 minutes, then placed, adjusted for bite, bonded, and polished — all the same day. No temporary crown, no second appointment.
Yes. CEREC uses high-strength ceramic blocks — the same class of material used by dental labs. The milling process is precise, and Dr. Alber’s expertise with the system means the fit and occlusion are carefully refined before bonding. CEREC restorations have a well-established long-term track record for durability and esthetics.
The iTero is a handheld digital scanner that captures a precise 3D model of your teeth without impression putty or trays. We use it for Invisalign treatment planning, restoration planning, and to show patients real-time images of their teeth during consultations. It is more comfortable than traditional impressions and produces highly accurate models.
Standard dental X-rays produce a two-dimensional image. Cone beam CT (CBCT) creates a three-dimensional view of the teeth, jawbone, nerve pathways, and surrounding anatomy. This level of detail is critical for accurate implant planning, evaluating bone volume for grafting, and assessing impacted teeth. It allows for more precise treatment planning and reduces the risk of complications.
Yes. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for mild anxiety and oral conscious sedation for patients who need deeper relaxation. Dr. Alber holds a conscious sedation permit. Both options are safe, closely monitored, and help patients who might otherwise avoid necessary dental care.
As a 100% fee-for-service practice, we provide full cost transparency before treatment begins. We accept CareCredit, Cherry, and Altheon financing at 0% interest promotional periods, as well as HSA and FSA. Our in-house membership plan is available for patients without dental insurance. We will review all options during your consultation.
