So originally I was going to go to medical school. And my dad is a barber, he cuts a lot of professional people’s hair. He told me that the doctors whose hair he cut, they didn’t really like their careers anymore. So he kind of convinced me to meet with a couple of them, and they were the ones that recommended I go to dental school. So I kind of just jumped in. I went home, I canceled my MCAT, I took my DAT, and the day I showed up I didn’t even know what a crown was. But I liked the idea.
I always wanted to own my own business and I always wanted to… I loved the idea of doing something and working with my hands. And I wanted to do something that helped people. So it just seemed like a good fit.
It’s not just like going and giving somebody a beautiful smile and all the things you would think it would be, but it’s really like getting to know people and having an effect on their lives, watch their kids grow up, just have an impact on people’s well-being and their health. To get to have a staff that I kind of think of like family, I really enjoy that part too.
Well, I grew up in Omaha and I went to high school in Omaha and then I went to undergrad and dental school at Creighton. So basically all my education happened in Omaha. I went straight from undergrad into dental school, so eight years, and we literally moved to Colorado the next day.
We do a lot of continuing education. I really enjoy that. I actually am a teaching mentor, superior education, down in Scottsdale. We teach the CEREC dentistry down there. It’s awesome. I love keeping on top of things. Dentistry is such an incredibly progressive profession these days. It’s changing by the minute, it seems like these days. I kind of feel like if you’re one of those people that… If you’re not staying at the forefront of where dentistry is going then you’re just being left in the dust because if you wait too long and then you try to get in there’s such a huge learning curve to catch up that it’s virtually impossible.
So I really kind of feel like dentistry is kind of going where there’s, you know, the people like me that are really trying to stay on the cutting edge, and then there’s the guys that are just counting the days to retirement. It’s much more fun to practice with, you know, the modern techniques, the new technology, utilizing all the tools we have at our disposal now. You know, it’s a lot better patient service too. We’re able to do dentistry so much faster now than we used to be able to.

Alber dental is a truly outstanding practice. By far the best dental practice I have visited. Every person there cares deeply about their patients and providing a comfortable, relaxing and extremely professional experience for their guests. Cannot recommend highly enough.

A true 5 stars experience. I’m a new patient. Had a great experience under the care of two lovely and skilled hygienists, both highly knowledgeable and with good manner. My interactions with Dr Alber were also very pleasant, filled with great info and advice and without the feeling badgering salesmanship of upselling me on orthodontics I know I don’t need. Overall, very content and will be happy to return.
